Community Event - Colour Run

The Colour Run will take place on Wednesday 2nd April 2025.

During the last week of Term 1, Noble Park Primary School will be engaging in a vibrant Colour Run! We will provide the colour, the music and the fun. To make the event extra special and bright, we ask that our students come to school wearing white!

Note: If a student is wearing a school uniform top, they will not be able to participate.

Why a Colour Run? A Colour Run is a perfect way to raise the spirit of the school while promoting physical and mental health! It is also a great way to end the school term with an afternoon of vibrant fun.

Gold Coin Donation We would appreciate a Gold Coin donation to help fund this event.  If additional funds are raised beyond the cost of the event they will be donated to State Schools Relief.

Do I Need To Sign A Permission Form For My Child To Participate In The Colour Run? This is an Opt Out event.  This means that if a parent/carer does not want their child to participate in this event they must advise the school prior to the event.

What Should My Child Wear? Ideally a white t-shirt as the colours show up best on white. The dry colour powder is guaranteed NOT to stain and will wash off easily.  However, if the powder comes in contact with water (or other liquid like sweat), the food coloring is released and is likely to temporarily stain skin, hair, clothes. Because it is food coloring it will wash or wear off.

Although the powders clean off earlier it is advised not to wear your most expensive shoes or clothes on the day.  Students, staff, parents and carers can also wear a ‘colourful crazy dress’ which could include wigs, headbands, wrist bands, skirts, socks… NO FACE PAINT or HAIR SPRAY please!

What Should My Child Wear To Cover Their Eyes? Sunglasses and goggles can be worn as a safety precaution. While it is unlikely for powder to be thrown in the eyes of students, sunglasses would eliminate this risk altogether.

What Happens If Powder Gets Into My Child Eyes, Nose, Ear Or Mouth? The powder may cause a bit of irritation but nothing serious, immediately flush any affected area with water. For eye protection it is recommended that people BYO goggles or sunglasses.

How Will We Throw The Powder? Colour powders are best thrown by hand as it provides a better and more accurate result – i.e. not in the face. Squeezy bottles have been tried and tested and are unnecessary. They are also a waste of plastic and money as there is not much else you can do with them afterwards.

What Food Colours Are Used In Colour Powder? The synthetic food colorings used to colour the powders are:

  • Brilliant Blue E133
  • Tartrazine E102
  • Carmoisine E122
  • Ponceau E124
  • Amaranth E123
  • Sunset Yellow E110

It is strongly recommended that anyone with a known allergy to any of these food colorings OPT OUT of a Colour Run.

What Are The Ingredients In The Powder? It is predominantly (~99%) Australian Wheaten starch (CAS #9005-25-8) known as Cornflour in Australia mixed with the food colourings listed below (~1%).

We also add small amounts of the following preservatives:

  • Tricalcium phosphate E341 (CAS No: 7758-87-4) is for anti-clumping and common in baby powder
  • Calcium Propionate E282 (CAS No: 4075-81-4) is a mould inhibitor common in bread and dairy products

Asthma and Colour Runs The inhalation of any small particles could affect people with asthma. The colours used in the Colour Run are in powder form, which could irritate the airways of someone with asthma and result in an asthma flare-up, particularly if they have a sensitivity to corn. Parents/carers of students with asthma should be aware of the potential risk and use their best judgement as to whether it will affect their child, this should include consulting their GP to ensure it is safe to participate. If students with asthma are participating in the event, they should ensure they take their preventer if prescribed leading up to the event, have a blue reliever puffer and spacer available and follow their written Asthma Action Plan or the Asthma First Aid Steps in the event they experience asthma symptoms. The school will implement a protective measure by providing facemasks for students with Asthma.

If you have any questions, please call the front office prior to the event.
