Kitchen Garden Designs

To ensure that we are continuing to develop an inclusive school community, I am pleased to share these beautiful designs. These designs are for our Kitchen Garden upgrade which will happen in two phases.  The second part of the upgrade will include a engaging sensory garden! We welcome feedback, suggestions or questions! Please talk to our friendly office staff - Madu and Vanessa.  Alternatively feel free to email noble.park.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

Phase 1 of the Kitchen Garden project

To take place prior to the commencement of the 2025 school year.

The plan is to define the garden area more with timber edging that has been used elsewhere in the garden beds. Some of the edging seems to end abruptly, so we hope to complete the existing beds by rounding them out. Furthermore, new edging will be used to create garden paths connecting the classroom areas to the vegetable garden, and the vegetable garden to the compost area and the walking paths from the play areas.

The hope is to create a connection between these spaces and also draw people into the vegetable garden. It will also create a dedicated lawn and sitting area under the large feature tree. By adding slim garden beds around the outside, we hope to create some height and interest by planting new shrubs.

There will also be a big clean out of this area (removing rubbish and debris) to make it look more aesthetically pleasing and safer. Some general maintenance will be completed, and the existing beds will be filled with new mulch to aid the health of the plants and make it more aesthetically pleasing.

Phase 2 of the Kitchen Garden project

To take place during the 2025 school year

Phase 2 hopes to really clean up the outdoor classroom area by removing the old brick oven and concrete and raising the toppings up to the top of the existing timber edging. This space will include some additional seating to create an outdoor classroom, with a blackboard or something similar attached to the shipping container so that teaching can be facilitated.

The Greenhouse Nursery will also be cleaned up, as well as the storage area behind the shipping container. Removing the in-ground bathtubs will also make this space safer and more accessible, whilst opening up a space for the sensory garden.

The sensory garden will be an engaging space for the students to walk through and interact with, and the planting plan includes some species which would be of interest, some of which were included in the Biodiversity Action Plan for the area as species which are seen to be fading, which will create a sustainable, native and biodiversity choice of garden. The path will also connect up to the outdoor classroom, as well as the Greenhouse Nursery.
